Membership Information




Eligibility

Membership is open to all Ogwa persons 18 years of age and older. Membership in Ogwa Synergy shall be open to all Ogwa indigenes regardless of race, creed, color, who subscribe to the purposes of Ogwa Synergy and meet the standards set forth in these Bylaws.  Applications for membership shall be approved by the Membership Committee in accordance with the provisions set forth in these Bylaws.  In considering applications for membership, no person shall be discriminated against for any reason whatsoever. Active Membership will be granted to all persons who, upon application, are found to qualify for Active or Associate membership in Ogwa Synergy. Any Ogwa citizen or citizen by marriage in the United States is eligible to be an active member and may hold office. Active members are expected to maintain their Ogwa Synergy membership. Ogwa Synergy Active and Associate memberships are defined as follows:

Membership classifications:

1.    Active
2.    Associate
3.    Honorary
4.    Alumni


All members, regardless of classification, shall guide themselves in accordance with the Bylaws and within the best interest of the Ogwa Synergy.

Active Membership:  Active Membership shall be available to any individual who has reached the age of eighteen (18) years.  Except as may be authorized by the Governing Council. Active Membership shall be limited to those persons who have been Associate Members for a period of at least six months, are current in membership dues, and are in good standing as determined by the Governing Council. Active Members shall be able to vote and run for office

Associate Membership:  Associate Membership shall be defined as anyone who has reached the age of eighteen (18) years, is current in membership dues, but does not fulfill the requirements of any other membership category.  Associate members may use the facilities, services and privileges extended to Active Members.  Associate Members shall not hold office, vote, or participate in the management of the Ogwa Synergy.  An Associate Member may be reinstated to Active Membership upon satisfying Active Membership qualifications, or by the approval of the Governing Council.  Qualifications of each member shall be reviewed prior to all elections and membership renewal.

Honorary Membership:  Upon recommendation of any Active Member and approval of the Governing Council, Honorary Membership may be extended to anyone who does not currently hold another membership category.  Honorary Members may use the facilities, services, and privileges extended to Active Members, subject to any limitations imposed by the Governing Council;  however, they shall not hold office, vote, or participate in the management of the Ogwa Synergy.

Alumni Membership:  Alumni of the Ogwa Synergy may have E-group mailing privileges available to them as stipulated by the Governing Council.  No other privileges shall be available to these members.  Alumni membership will be limited to those members who have been active at least three (3) years and who do not currently hold another membership category.

Application:  Application for membership shall be submitted for approval to the Membership Committee upon the applicant meeting the requirements as set forth by the Bylaws.

  • Applicant shall pay membership fee prior to becoming a member.
  • Membership may be closed by action of the Governing Council any time it deems necessary.
  • Membership may be revoked by action of the Governing Council for any member who does not guide himself/herself in accordance with the Ogwa Synergy Bylaws and in the best interest of the association.
  • The Governing Council with the approval of 2/3 of the members present has the right to make exception to the above rules of membership.


Dues:     Annual membership fees shall be continuous for twelve (12) months.  Membership renewal shall be on or before the end of the month the member joined from the previous year.  Membership shall be at the appropriate member rate, dues shall be used for operating the Ogwa Synergy.


Termination of Membership: Memberships may be terminated:

  • By resignation. Any member in good stand­ing may resign from Ogwa Synergy upon written notice to the Secretary.  All dues paid shall be forfeited to Ogwa Synergy.
  • By lapsing. A membership will be considered as lapsed and automatically terminated if such member’s dues remain unpaid 90 days after the first day of the fiscal year; however, the governing council may grant an addi­tional 90 days of grace to such delinquent members in meritorious cases. In no case may a person be entitled to vote at any Ogwa Synergy meeting whose dues are unpaid as of the date of that meeting.
  • By expulsion. A membership may be termi­nated by expulsion as provided in Article 3 of these bylaws.
